Focus on Enrolment and Mandatory Biometric Update of children – DC

On July 19, 2024, under the chairmanship of Sh. Showkat Ahmad Parray, IAS, DC, Patiala, and in the presence of Sh. Sanjeev Mahajan, Director, UIDAI Regional Office, Chandigarh, a District Level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee met to review the status of Aadhaar enrolment and further strengthen the ecosystem. We discussed Aadhaar authentication and offline verification, including the use of QR codes for Aadhaar verification.

Sh. Showkat instructed the health department to organise Aadhaar camps in hospitals and vaccination centres to enrol newborns and children below the age of 5 years. He also instructed officers to inspect Aadhaar enrollment centres regularly to ensure proper functioning. He urged the residents to get mandatory biometric updates (MBU) done on the age of 5 and 15 years. This facility is free for children in the age groups of 5-7 years and 15–17 years. He instructed the education department to prepare a roster for the movement of kits in the schools for this purpose.
Sh Sanjeev Mahajan, Director UIDAI, appealed to the residents to keep their mobile numbers and documents updated in Aadhaar so that they can access various government facilities seamlessly. He informed me that the document update facility is free of charge until September 14, 2024.
Sh. Mahajan explained the key aspects of Aadhaar authentication and verification, emphasizing the use of Aadhaar for good governance and ease of living for residents.
