Local Resident Raises Concerns Over Discriminatory Electricity Connection Practices by PSPCL Officials in Patiala
On 4th August 2025, Mr. Bhupinder Singh, husband of Monica Rani, publicly voiced his concerns regarding the actions of a Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officer at Dhamomajra Road, Patiala. According to Mr. Singh, his wife, Monica Rani, had applied for a new electricity meter on 14th July 2025 and deposited the required fee of ₹3,530 with the PSPCL for the installation.
However, the concerned duty officer informed them that they could not receive an electricity connection as there was no nearby electric pole adjacent to their plot. This denial has raised serious questions, as Mr. Singh pointed out that their immediate neighbor has successfully received an electricity connection under similar circumstances, despite the alleged absence of a nearby pole.
Mr. Singh has questioned how such discrepancies in service are possible, highlighting a possible case of selective or discriminatory action by the authorities. He has called upon PSPCL officials and higher authorities to clarify the basis on which electricity connections are being approved or denied and to ensure fair and equal treatment for all applicants.
The incident has drawn attention to the need for greater transparency and accountability in the process of granting electricity connections in the region.
