The police issued an order requiring the complete registration of tenants, servants, and paying guests.

Patiala, June 10:
Madam Kanchan, Additional District Magistrate, Patiala, in exercise of the powers vested under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (Act No. 2 of 1974), has issued an order that the Municipal Committees, Nagar Panchayats, and Village Panchayats be within the limits of District Patiala. Whenever a person residing in the jurisdiction keeps a tenant, servant, or paying guest in his house, he shall ensure to register the full particulars of the same at the nearest police station or outpost.

The prohibition order asserts that the proximity of district Patiala to Chandigarh and Haryana, along with the presence of industry, attracts numerous individuals from other states and districts seeking employment opportunities. In addition to this, there are students and trainees from other states who are studying in various educational institutions, individuals from various professions or businesses who are staying as paying guests, and service workers from call centres who are also renting rooms. Many of these individuals return home after committing incidents, making it challenging to trace them. Due to their fear of disrupting the law and order situation, the landlords do not register the information of these tenants with the police. These orders will remain in force until August 5, 2024.
