Chandigarh, December 1: On this occasion, SSP Harjit Singh, SDM Sandeep Kumar, ADC (D) Parveen Kumar, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jugal Kishore, SP Sukhdev Singh Virk, SP Sharanjit Singh, all DSPs, and health department officials, among others, were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, continuous work is being done for the overall development of Punjab, and under this series, the work of installing new machinery for the work of prisoners inside the jails of Punjab is going on, and 12 petrol pumps are also being installed outside the jails in the state.
He said that so far, four petrol pumps have been set up at Ludhiana, Rupnagar, Hoshiarpur, and Ferozepur, and today the fifth petrol pump has been dedicated to the people of Patiala. He said that with the setting up of the petrol pump, the revenue of the jail department would increase, and this money would be spent only for the improvement of the jail department. He said that this petrol pump (Ujala Fuels), run by the Punjab Jail Development Board and Ça.Hya.C., would also be operated by prisoners with good conduct. He said that those who are serving their sentence in jail for some reason or another will not only improve themselves by staying inside the jail but will also get a chance to perform their duties outside the jail due to the efforts of the Jail Department. He said that this would help the inmates to keep themselves mentally and physically fit and also provide them with income.
Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema said that work is also being done to improve the health of the prisoners in the jails, under which Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh is working for the health of the prisoners at Patiala Central Jail and CM’s Yogshala is also being run. On the occasion, SSP Jails Arun Pal Singh said that state-of-the-art machinery has been installed to add fuel to the Ujala Fuel at Central Jail Patiala, and a petrol pump along with a cafe, bakery, and retail outlet have also been set up. On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner Dharam Pal Gupta, SSP Harjit Singh, Additional DC (general) Roohi Dugg, SDM Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Karamjit Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Jugal Kishore, SP Sukhdev Singh, ACS Dr. Jyoti Kaushal, Dr. Parvesh, and DSP Rajesh Chhibbar, among various others, were also present.
